We recommend most kids to begin routine teeth cleanings and check ups around age 3. Our young patients learn about developing healthy life-long habits by proper brushing and flossing.
Young patients can expect the following during their visit:
X-rays to ensure healthy tooth growth and to detect developing cavities
Fluoride treatments that strengthen their teeth
An overall mouth exam
Instruction on caring for their teeth, a toothbrush, floss, and lip gloss to take home
When necessary, we fill cavities with composite (white) fillings and we can crown badly damaged baby teeth with silver caps
Sealants provide protection on the top surface of molars and are offered once the child’s permanent molars come in fully
The most problematic spot in a child’s mouth to keep clean is between their molars. Acids and sugars from candy, juices and soft drinks wear away the enamel and rest in between teeth that a toothbrush alone cannot reach. We suggest limiting sugary drinks and offering milk during the day and water at night before bedtime. Make good dental health a priority at any early age and develop a lifetime of healthy smiles.
